SUSTAINABILITY
At Hodson Bay Group, sustainable hospitality is a core responsibility that shapes how we operate every day. We are committed to protecting the natural environment and cultural heritage of the destinations we serve, while delivering high‑quality guest experiences that respect local landscapes and communities. Our approach to responsible tourism is embedded across the organisation, from reducing our environmental impact and sourcing locally, to supporting community wellbeing and encouraging thoughtful, low‑impact travel.
Our sustainability focus is practical, measurable and action‑led. We prioritise energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, the elimination of single‑use plastics, biodiversity protection and local procurement, ensuring long‑term environmental preservation alongside sustainable economic growth. Our progress to date includes a 25.7% reduction in CO₂ emissions, a 78% waste diversion rate, the planting of 20,000 native Irish trees and continued advancement toward the full removal of single‑use plastics. Through cleaner technologies, smarter systems and expanding guest‑led initiatives, we are strengthening our commitment to responsible tourism and building a more sustainable future for the communities we serve.
We were honoured to receive the Excellence in Sustainability and Climate Action Award for 2025.
This recognition reflects our commitment as a hospitality
group to responsible leadership, thoughtful stewardship and continuous, measurable
progress across all our hotels.
It acknowledges our success in reducing our carbon footprint by 26%, alongside the care we bring to every aspect of our operations. The award reinforces our dedication to shaping a more sustainable future for our guests, our communities and the environments in which we operate.
A Responsible Business Framework
Our sustainability framework integrates environmental and social priorities with the expectations of our stakeholders. It is grounded in respect for our guests, colleagues, communities and the natural environment, and supports a balanced approach to responsible tourism. Through this framework, we focus on reducing environmental impact while delivering positive social and economic outcomes, including supporting local employment and community resilience.
Sustainability is embedded across all levels of the organisation, with clear governance structures in place to ensure it informs day‑to‑day decision‑making. Steering groups, from the Board of Directors through to hotel departmental teams, provide oversight and accountability, supported by external expertise and independently audited certification programmes.
Introduced this year, our sustainability logo reflects this organisation‑wide commitment and features across staff and guest communications. It acts as a clear and consistent marker of our shared responsibility and our ongoing commitment to responsible tourism practices.
